After The Silence of the Lambs, the acclaimed director Jonathan Demme disappeared from our screens only to return with a Philadelphia movie that would become one of the biggest blockbusters of the year and Tom Hanks (Splash, Turner & Hooch) and Denzel Washington (Malcolm X, The Pelican Brief) massive stars. This DivX Movie Philadelphia was the first DivX film Philadelphia to deal with a deadly virus known as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS alias). Hanks plays Andrew Beckett, a gay lawyer who tries to hide his illness and his private life led by their chief Charles Wheeler (Jason Robards, Enemy of the State, Crimson Tide). Its leaders know that their "golden boy is gay and has AIDS" and fire him. Beckett then find represention injures lawyer Joe Miller (Washington), who is homophobic and he refuses at first, but then he decided that his right to do. Tom Hanks won a deserved Academy Award Best Actor (then won the same award a year after Forrest Gump), but I think that Denzel Washington was better. Definitely one of the best Demme.
There is a moment in the DVD movie Philadelphia in which I looked into the eyes of your character and think that Tom Hanks was gay. The compromise in performance is monumental. The DVD film Philadelphia is an episode of "The Practice" and not necessarily one of the best but I feel too happy if I put "Philadelphia" on. Never fails to bring tears to my eyes. I loved Hanks in part because he believed so completely. The casting of Joanne Woodward is a stroke of genius. What an extraordinary actress. His brief but much perfect, moving, beautiful portrait adds layers and layers to the character of Hanks. Complete our understanding of it because of it. Denzel Washington is very fun to watch and as good as he is still have not warmed to him. There is something there that confuses me. Convincingly in "Training Day" unconvincing "The Preacher's Wife" is beautiful Banderas, although it is difficult to imagine that a "Law of Desire" scene with Tom Hanks. I'm sure a little more clarity about their relationship could have raised this good DVD film Philadelphia into a great one, but probably have not done a lot of money. I'm not sure I made myself clear, I am recommending the movie. I am, all repairs are mine. Pay no attention. Hanks at his best phenomenal, Joanne Woodward and Bruce Springsteen. Of course I recommend.
Denzel is now in a position that is not the injustice imposed upon him. He is on the other side of the table that a homosexual person (Tom Hanks) from a minority community that comes from the representation in the courts as a lawyer, but is initially rejected. Denzel has his own prejudices against the gay community, but faces when they see other people against the prejudices of Tom Hanks and the gay community that is expressed in a library. For a moment, Denzel is in history and the role is reversed. He is a black man in a predominantly white library where the staff did not want him to frequent. While tolerating his presence in the library, the library frequenters of choosing not to sit next to him because of his difference. Denzel, a black man, now connects with Tom Hanks, a gay man, for their difference. Philaedelphia is not a Philadelphia film about the representation of the gay community, is a Philadelphia Drama film about the difference. The black man and the gay community that makes the difference.
