In this update of Disney's masterpiece film mixture of animation and music, new interpretations of great works of music are presented. It begins with an abstract battle of light and darkness set to the music of Beethoveen's Fifth Symphony. Then we see the adventures of a Humpback Whale calf and his pod set to 'The Pines of Rome.' Next is the humourous story of several lives in 1930's New York City, scored with 'Rhapsody in Blue.' Following is a musical telling of the fairy tale, 'The Steadfast Tin Soldier' set to Dmitri Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2. Then a goofy Flamingo causes havoc in his flock with his yo-yo to the tune of the finale of 'Carnival of the Animals.' This is followed by the classic sequence from the original film, 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice' starring Mickey Mouse and followed by 'Pomp and Circumstance' starring Donald Duck as a harried assistant to Noah on his Ark. Finally, we see the awesome tale of the life, death and renewal of a forest in a sequence featuring the composition, 'The Firebird.'

Although not as revolutionary as the original (especially since much of the old footage was used), this is a magnificent piece of work. The "Pines of Rome" and "Carnival of the Animals" sequence in particular are my favorites, though all the new segments are good. The pomp and circumstance "segment brings good memories of the old, Donald and Daisy films. The "Firebird" segment is probably the least attractive to me personally, but very well done, technically. I could have done without the segment of Steve Martin, but again, it is a personal bias. The "Rhapsody in Blue" segment was a stroke of genius, not only captures known characters of the 30s, but the sensation of the time. My hat is off to the creators, producers, designers, editors and musicians involved in this colossal undertaking - that makes me want more!
Fantasy was clearly an original work of art, which is why it took so many years to make a simple call to a hearing. Director James Algar know, I know what happened there. Those who dismiss it as fluff must rethink his artistic sensibilities. Fantasia 2000 was a completely different look and texture. Yes, you can criticize the fact that the music was edited, but since MTV appeared on the scene in 1980, attention has been reduced. The pace is not everything, but at this time, prompting his film. The animation is very high. In some cases, Disney was writing the book about the new look CGI. My favorite sequence is clearly "Pines of Rome." I know that the end is a motion by the Via Appia, but have been recreated for a march of Roman soldiers, Sparticus wing, would have been much less creative than what it really did the animators. Perhaps classical music is not your taste, but before the explosion, knowing that every song I hear has a classical base. For what it's worth, I have a doctorate in musicology, so perhaps I have a little better on the topic that the average person is in a Mosh pit.
I can not stop me! Four of the seven segments in this DivX film Fantasia/2000 are the only ones worth the admission. Roy Disney Jr. sets the stage for a dramatic departure from the usual Disney animated dreck that has been stalled for the last half-decade (Toy Story apart). Disney has become my faith in them as a leader in the animation package. I want more! "Pines of Rome", a wonderful piece set to the "history" of the whales to leave the water and ultimately the planet, worth seeing multiple times for their symbolism and exquisite appearance. "Rhapsody in Blue" by Gershwin, treatment is perfect for a day in the life of the city of New York. The pace is quick and manages to give each character enough depth study to make a very satisfying and touching ending. "Pompa and circumstance, the level of graduation, it is funny and sweet. Creating a love story involving Donald and Daisy Duck in the story of Noah's Ark worked surprisingly well. "Firebird Suite" - WOW. This segment is the most incredible movie. It is a perfect marriage of animation and music to play loud. Emotional and very powerful indeed. I had to post another comment because I can not stress enough that this is a worthy successor to the Fantasy and Walt would be proud.
While aware that the original plan to renovate the Fantasy every concept of time and is viewed as an ongoing project, I felt it again after 60 years was too much, and that the original classic should be left alone. However, my initial skepticism dissipated within seconds of the opening sequence. What we have here is a lush, vibrant fusion of animation and music, fully complementing each other to perfection. It is difficult to choose a favorite in the sequence, but if you really pressed for taste alone, it's impressive sequence with the whales. Mickey Sorcerer's Apprentice sequence is the only transfer from the original, and a worthy rival for him in 2000 is the line of Donald "Noah." The only criticism I have of the DVD movie Fantasia/2000 is the bridge sequence, with Steve Martin, Penn & Teller, Bette Midler and others. I would have preferred sticking to a presenter, preferably James Earl Jones and Angela Landsbury. They seemed to have the material and the project much more seriously than Martin and Penn & Teller that detracted from the dignity of the humor of the film: Fantasia/2000 as a whole.
Although not as good as "Fantasy" (imaginar. .. Each of the cells in the original was carefully drawn by hand), this Fantasia/2000 Music movie is fantastic. "The Firebird Suite" and "pomp and circumstance" are wonderful, but the glory of this Fantasia/2000 Music is "Rhapsody In Blue." Eric and Susan Goldburg Goldburg McKinsey use the style of Al Hirschfeld (all big draws cartoon refers to TV Guide) to create a magnificent story of four people and their dreams, making this piece a joy to see. The rest of the Fantasia/2000 Music is good and you'll find yourself watching again and again. . .
Fantasy 2000 presents a visual journey into the music, in my opinion, that protrudes from the Fantasia. Not only is it extremely fluid animation, colors, and very different from segment to segment, but the representation of music is in itself, pure genius. As I have come to expect from Disney, at least some research has been done in the texture of the music, as well as thematic studies and tonal structure. This much, in my opinion, is in the evidence of flagrant and subtle use of contrast on the screen to highlight the contrast of the music. Overall, this movie: Fantasia/2000 is very high value and is an excellent nature. I recommend to see it in IMAX screen for the full effect of light and sound and be prepared for a sound experience that you whistling tunes throughout the week.
