| It's totally incomprehensible how to reach the big screen. The script does not provide the background for any of the characters or the politics of the time when it worked, which makes superfluous history. Guy Pearce is too "macho" in all senses of the word to effectively represent the androgyny of Warhol. Hayden Christensen - a great actor when he gets the chance - outside of the page, as if still in front of the green screen in Star Wars. Miller - so promising in "Alfie" - is abysmal. Their actions reveal a lack of hard action. Of course, the script and direction give anything to work, but his face shows no knowledge whatsoever of the historical era in which Edie lived or what made her tick. Granted these are matters on which a player must have his own personal "take". But Miller did not even bother to do that. She looks happy in itself just to walk through the screen and she strives for nothing more. It is no surprise to those who lost out to the less well-known Lena Headey of the lead female role in "300." The screen lights up to the final 60 seconds, when Meredith Ostrom as Nico. Unfortunately, as she quickly disappears again. The final cut is an outrageous insult to Sedgwick, Warhol, Dylan, the Velvet Underground and the public itself. |
