| Spoilers here. Yet another example of why even the best actors can not be trusted with smart materials. They simply do not have the required skills. But this is a nice try, better than most movies, actually. This is the setup: a man invents a role for itself in a world created, 'I' is in the entertainment industry and creates another world, and the person himself. So I write a book. The three levels are shown here, all sliced and diced according to Kaufman clever folding techniques. Clooney plays a great manipulator of these levels (the CIA) and is also a great manipulator of the top level, this film. He does a great job in some respects by the creation of great scenes that move from one layer or in time to another. These are very clever and worth seeing on its own. But it just is not enough. Part of the problem is that the original concepts of non Kaufman continued. They moved into the narrative extremely strange land with different narratives is not trusted. These were ditches. The producers are not as crazy as Barris, a real shame. But the other problem is that much emphasis on doing a good job from the perspective of the actors. All scenes are in it for the benefit of players, all to clearly. Should have been formed as a multi-layered ambiguous, like Kaufman planned. Ted's Evaluation - 3 of 3: Worth seeing. |
