| For me, this is one of the best movies I've saw.Overcoming racism, the struggle for life and show that it is not just a simple cookie, Carl Brashear is an amazing character to play, that places in Cuba its best light, its best performance in life.De Niro, who is a living legend that something gives the movie.Hated his character in the movie, but acting is so good for this film, the appearance of large performance.And Charlize is beautiful as ever and is a great advantage for all films. So if you have not seen this Men of Honor movie i highly recommended for fans of the courage, the grandeur inspiration.You seekers should look at this great drama. My Vote 9 / 10. |
| Tillman Jr. 's drama about the first African American Navy Master Diver (Gooding Jr.), who defies all odds and achieve their objectives despite a bitter strict coach. The script is not bad, a bit extreme, at times, but the direction and acting is first class, and this Men of Honor Drama movie is inspiring and accomplished what its supposed to do. I like DeNiro in the head, although its not on par with his masterful work (taxi driver, godfather and all others), is as good as the rest of their success in the King of Comedy or Angel Heart. DeNiro is always convincing and credible here, very good performance, Gooding Jr. is not bad, certainly one of his best performances. --- IMDb Rating: 6.6, my rating: 9 / 10 |
| The inspiring story of Carl Brashear (Cuba Gooding, Jr.), a black man who grew up in poverty in Kentucky and then joined the U.S. Navy, who aspire to be the first black in the Navy Diver Masters history. Shows the number of children in struggles that Brashear must overcome to realize her dream (and then to keep it alive.) Not the least of the challenges that Master Diver Bill Sunday (Robert DeNiro), the head coach at the school of the Navy diver Brashear submitted, which is not particularly sympathetic to the goals Brashear, but that ultimately becomes an unlikely friend and defender. This is a good movie, and very fast action, but not an "action" pic in the normal sense of the word. There is a very human story here, and an interesting study of racism and the struggle to overcome it, there is also a sense of struggle that took place in the 1960s, between old and young naval officers (the "Old Navy" vs. the "new marina.") The actions are very good - especially Goodings. DeNiro thought is perhaps a bit over the top in his image on Sunday (although, who knows, Sunday might have been this kind of extreme loose cannon) and the image of Sunday's wife Gwen (by Charlize Theron), I was the question of whether these parties were "jazz" to provide entertainment. A good movie, however. I never once questioned whether it was worth tuning into. 7 / 10 |
| I did not have much interest in one of the men of honor, but sat and watched it with my family. I loved it! The opening of the Men of Honor Drama film is very powerful, mainly because of the father, and the story takes about ten minutes later. There is a great story packed into this film, and although this is a Men of Honor Drama film of two hours, the first half hour and happen so quickly, and the last half hour, finally slowing to a good pace, but before you know. Cuba Gooding Jr. does a good job, almost great. He can be a little cheesy at times, but 99% of the time, their role is very good. Looks like a real person with an indestructible will to overcome the racism that is the maintenance of reaching their dreams. I like Robert DeNiro further. He is always a great actor, and in a way, that his performance in "Raging Bull." The character is different, but it has its moments that seem similar to Jake LaMotta. It is a cold heart and racist man, but get some sympathy when you realize that he and Carl Brashear are driven by the same motives and just different paths. I definitely see this movie, even if it seems faster. 8.0/10. |
