Based upon the Tom Clancy novel of the same name, Jack Ryan, a CIA analyst, is thrust right in the middle of a power struggle within the Colombian drug cartel after one of the President's 'life long' friends is murdered, apparently in retaliation for stealing money as part of a money laundering scheme for the cartel. Jack is then appointed acting Deputy Director of Intelligence, CIA, upon the terminal illness of Admiral James Greer, former DDI, and quickly gets in over his head due to his political naivete. The situation rapidly deteriorates when some of the presidents men convince the President to conduct covert actions against the cartel, in direct violation of congress. Felix Cortez, the security chief of Ernesto Escobeda, the 'victim' of the missing money, is one of the cartel boss's. Cortez tries to play both sides, appearing to inform Escobeda about the CIA's involvement in the covert operations against him, while trying to orchestrate a coup to take over the cartel, with Cortez as it's sole boss. James Cutter, the President's National Security Advisor, makes his own deal with Cortez, with the Presidents knowledge, and halts communications to the covert troops still in Colombia, through the Deputy Director of Operations, CIA, Robert Ritter. Ryan ends up going to Colombia to rescue the covet ops troops with the help of field agent John Clark, but not before some fence mending between the two, being that Ritter blamed Ryan for the comm outage, with Clark's men subsequently being captured by Cortez's mercenaries.

I do not know anyone who does not like this film, clear and present danger. There was a funny cartoon I once read called the clear and present that showed Dangerfield Rodney Dangerfield saying "I have no respect from these terrorists!" Very funny. The Clear and Present Danger movie has some cheesy moments and some patriotic moments of John Wayne to be proud. The book and film: Clear and Present Danger are different, but the book, like most of Tom Clancy's books are so long that it is not possible to become like a movie. So, therefore, the Clear and Present Danger Thriller focuses on the parts with Jack Ryan and the other characters are almost the same. Henry Czerny is on the top side as an actor in it and got some papers from his strong performance underestimated. Donald Moffat plays both sides a better president than any actor who would otherwise have served as a means straight dictator. As in the book, the President has no name, just going by the name of the President of the United States of America. Philip Noyce does a good job in directing this picture. And, of course, this is one of Harrison Ford in the last great role since he was Tom Hanks and desperate for an Oscar ever since. In general, it is a great DivX film Clear and Present Danger for everyone to enjoy.

Harrison Ford returns as Jack Ryan, star of the very well done "Patriot Games", the Clear and Present Danger movie adaptation of the best-selling Tom Clancy novels. Also returning Åre Anne Archer and James Earl Jones. THE BAD - This is not so intense, especially in the first half hour, as Patriot Games and the end was a bit disappointing with a scene of action-credibility problem. Once again - it's become a tired theme of Hollywood - USA top government officials, that to the President, are corrupt, liars are not trusted. THE GOOD - It is nice to see Willem Dafoe finally play a good guy. Here are deceptively interesting villains, as actors Joaquim de Almeida, Harris Yulin and Henry Czerny, Miguel Sandoval - big names, but recognizable and good actors. Violence is not exaggerated in the here and when the action occurs, the sound is fantastic. The best action scene was shooting in the streets with snipers firing at the cars below. Positives are much more than the negatives, making this a solid thriller.
