| As a fan of the music scene, I was worried that the Hairspray movie can not match - but a blow to the ballpark! Bright, cheerful and bouncy fun! A big smile hit my face as soon as they started to smile and not leave until the end of the credits. I did not hear a selection of press after the audience applauded musical numbers from "Chicago" - and lively! The huge cast is uniformly terrific. Travolta, Pfeiffer and Walken are a scream and Nikki Blonsky could not be more perfect. The performances, script, lyrics, jokes and costumes seen a wage assault in all its humor. Even the set dressing laughs! This is fat that the Hairspray Musical movie musical, Dreamgirls and Rent should have been. Bravo! |
| What an amazing journey for this property. The original low-budget film, a brilliant stage musical, this phenomenal movie. At each stage, creativity and pizazz are added to a solid history. I've seen it twice and enjoyed it a lot like the second time. I wanted to applaud several times, and threw a lot of my 100% in the plot. Life is too short to not enjoy such perfection. I was never a big fan of Travolta, but still attempt that role - and pull it with aplomb - he moves up on my list. Other veterans and newcomers shine. Can not wait to buy this one on DVD, but please pack with extras and interviews! |
| Two days after seeing this film, I can not remember a single item, but I'm still happy. And still thinking. This is the kind of Hairspray Musical film that causes so much happiness and thought. And happiness and thoughts are especially welcome in a country that seems unhappy - finally - to be almost ready to leave his Cheneyesque "There's only one way to be good" mindset. It is also true that in the early'60s, the period is shown in this film. I remember very well that time and I'm very anxious to leave behind me a second time. I look forward to a more thoughtful and thorough review, but for now I will offer a bold prediction: John Travolta will be the surprise winner of the Academy Award for Best Actress for her very sweet, fun and simple image Edna! |
