How fast, well-woven as the mystery of Sherlock Holmes is the terror by night, tells of a famous jewel being transported from London to Edinburgh, with the watchful eye of Sherlock Holmes and befuddled, faithful Watson in tow. To travel along Åre Inspector Lestrade, arch-criminal Sebastion Colonel Moran, a cast of eccentric, Victorian-type characters, including a wonderful math teacher (no Moriarity), and a train that gives the right mood for the murder and intrigue. I really liked this addition to the series of Holmes films. Not the best of the lot, but it ranks up there in terms of what it offers. Good, solid direction of veteran Holmes Roy William Neill, quality, reliable leads from acting Rathbone and Bruce, exceptional acting Mowbry Alan and company, and a zippy pace connected to a script that is able to develop the plot and suspense, despite the length of the DivX Movie Terror by Night is a little less than an hour. All aboard! You will not regret taking this trip, if you like good, old-fashioned suspense. |
Holmes has been hired to protect a man carrying a precious jewel like traveling from London to Edinburgh for the night train. A lot of sinister and suspicious passengers in his carriage around them and before long the man has died and the stolen jewel. With Lestrade (which just happens to be there) and Watson (who almost lost the train) to 'help', he visits each and every passenger with suspicion as the Scotch Express (what?) Rockets through the rural darkness. There's plenty of atmosphere and even a little claustrophobic, but the director Roy William Neil makes full use of its literal and isolated setting. It can be a bit short, but undoubtedly one of the best Rathbone / Bruce films. |
There is a second of time lost on the screen telling the story of the Star of Rhodesia diamond is stolen on board an express train - and, of course, Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson and Lestrade Insepctor everyone aboard train, having been informed that someone is going to make an attempt to steal it. This low-budget Universal input is easily one of the best features of the Universal co-starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. Bruce is especially funny as he decides to do some investigating himself, fun with false clues that led him astray. Rathbone is completely soft and relaxed as Holmes, snappy than usual in the way it treats Watson and more enjoyable in the role he has been in other entries. The plot abounds with the usual array of suspicious characters, but all players ALAN MOBRAY is what stands out as the man who befriends Watson. Despite the low budget excessive ornaments and miniatures to show a train race through the fog of the night, the story is tense and the whole matter is intriguing enough to keep watching until it finishes the unusual - where a double twist is completely unexpected. Holmes adventure very enjoyable, a good pace and entertaining. |
I like especially this late entry in the Rathbone-Bruce Sherlock Holmes series of the forties. It is one of the cheapest made almost entirely on board for establishing the fastest-moving train. Holmes referred to the history of efforts to ensure that a valuable diamond, the Star of Rhodesia, was not stolen. There are some awfully suspicious characters around, some of them quite irritable. Holmes is his usual unflappable self, Watson and Bumble enragés people, Inspector Lestrade is the stupid, and yet always somehow reassuring self. The support is, as usual for this series, very well chosen. Skelton Knaggs makes most of his small role. I especially like the performance of Alan Mowbray as a peer with friends around Watson. Mowbray was silky smooth as an actor, and his languid manner as sharp as Rathbone. The revelation of the criminal action and the circumstances surrounding it are handled in a manner strikingly baroque, even for a Sherlock Holmes movie, and is as sudden and unpleasant - no one expects the Terror by Night Adventure movie to end like this enough - that To really improve in the second and third viewing. How many films can say that? |
Or so the trailer was night terror, also "A thrill of a mile at 90 miles per hour." This means that with a little "run" time of 57 minutes should have been 85.5 emotions, and he does amazing feat of mathematical Colonel Sebastian Moran me? I have always enjoyed this penultimate Rathbone Holmes film, my daughter, but (Chunky beef) has always been rather boring and only ever sees her again, as we have seen is usually the last twelve departures in quick succession. Rathbone certainly get tired of the role and has now demonstrated. However, it is a whodunnit pleasant, with many scenes and accents, or to admire, whether to cry. Universal could not have had a large bill for the fixes, since almost all the action aboard the train - from London to Scotland, where a murder was committed to obtain possession of an enormous diamond owned. Apart from its lack the only other thing that let down a bit for me is the TBN fight climate - where fantasy becomes exaggerated the involvement of the last sequiteur not think so! A very good Terror by Night Adventure film for the discerning viewer who, paradoxically, not to think too much, but just enjoy the atmosphere and excitement of 85.5 persecution! |
Assistants to the DivX Movie Terror by Night in the late 1930's and 40's thought that this team of players perform exactly how Sherlock Holmes is supposed to be in real life. Basil Rathbone (Sherlock Holmes), "The Black Cat", "41 was always an excellent performance and appearance added greatly to its role as the famous English detective in London, England. Nigel Bruce (Dr. John H. Watson ), "The Corn is Green", "45 he co-Holmes and sometimes seem ridiculous. This whole film: Terror by Night is about a long train, and run out of magazines, and even looking into a coffin. Alan Mowbray (Maj.Duncan-Bleek), "I wake up screaming," 41 took a major role in supporting and maintaining the play Dr. Watson Gin Rummy busy during the Lionel train "Black & White! Skelton Knaggs, (Sands), "Bedlam",'46, put his ugly face in the plot and as always gave a great supporting role. If you like Holmes Classic Movies and a veteran of these great players, this is just one of the great films of Rathbone and Bruce appeared on! |
